I met her and her husband over 20 years ago here in Mobile and they were so down to earth, warm and loving folk. Really; I was sorry to hear about Ossie’s passing last year because I was truly hoping he would hit the 90th mark; but God had other plans.I have read their book about their years together; You might can say that they were the African American Lunt-Fountaine. They were in films, plays; Ossie had his own show Purlie Victorious; they bought recited poems and performed on stage doing shows and later on introduced films for the African American Movie Network; Around 1992, when the Black Expo was going around alive and kicking, I saw them again in New York at the Jacob Javitz selling their various books and items;

though I am still determined, I am wondering about this; will keep ya posted.

Whike I was doing TDY (temporary duty) in Dharhan, Saudi Arabia, a rumor went out around the base that Gen Powell was coming; then one of the Army Sargeants called asking for chairs for the event for his troops; soon, just about every African American on that base tried their level best to be a part of that number; well anyhow, there was Master Sergeant that had a slot open but she wasn’t interested in going so she let this other sister go; I am sure to this day she is kicking herself on that but I am grateful for Suzy for doing it; And that morning, we all went to the other side of the base, where we went into this briefing room so small but jam packed; one of the officers briefed us on what to say and what to ask the General; he was about to retire from the Army and all by then(Summer 1993), and we knew he was on to bigger and better; well, he came in that room and we ALL proudly stood at attention; He first thanked us for coming as well as coming over here and leaving family and such behind to serve in Saudi Arabia and that a grateful nation thanked us; I took that personally because at the time, I had to go and I had two toddlers and I had less than two weeks to get my act together and get there no lie; anyway, he basically did a question and answer session with the troops who hung on to his every word; I can still remember that day; Saudi is real hot, so that room was cool and despite the numbers of folk in the room. after the session, we ALL stood at attention and he filed out the room, then the Saudi contingency then our commanders followed by us; The whole thing lasted about an hour. no, I didn’t shake his hand or anything, but I was DEFINITELY in the same room with him; I was real proud of him then because he was from the Bronx and so am I; he is of Carribean ancestry and so am I; so I just had to be in that room one way or another. later on that day, I called home to Alabama to tell my folks about it and they said they felt I would meet him because they knew he was in the area from TV.

Hello! It seems as though Maya will be coming to Mobile on Sept 12 or 13; anyway, though the price is a bit high-$100, I plan to go anyhow; take a picture and put it on here too; peace ya’ll. will keep updating.

Well, this has become a can not do since Mrs King has died; May she rest in peace.

I’m not a big reality tv fan, and American Idol made me mad when Rueben won and folks swore he was cheating; I feel like this; if you are in the top ten of that competition, you are going to get a record deal or something!! When, I heard abaout Fantasia and how she almost didn’t get on American Idol and this security guard believed in her soo much to get her in that building, I knew that God had his hand on this and that’s why she won; I also feel she is an inspiration to all “baby mommas” who struggle through life, and I got a copy of her autobiography, “Life Is Not a Fairy Tale”, which talks about her life and makes a great cautionary tale; I just want to meet her and hug her and tell her I’m proud of her. She did some extraordinary things; And now some of these ladies out there that don’t feel that can get no where have her to look to for inspiration; she’s certainly mine;

I am a 40 something sister with two teenaged daughters; I live with my elderly parents; work and trying to get into nursing school; I happened to have found 43things through my yahoo blog and fell in love with the site; It keeps me straight with the things that I want to do and people that I want to meet; I wasn’t able to find the folks that I wanted to meet so now I am just adding them up; There are soo many folks that I want to meet and just know;

I only been contacting Stephanie online because she had some goals that were similar to mine and i wanted to touch bases with her; Well, come to find out that she had four different types of names and what have you and is one smart cookie; I would love to meet her and just check out her vibe; She emails me, but can’t get her messages because she fuses them with mine and I don’t get the gist.

I got to work a concert featuring her, Big and Richw/Cowboy Troy(if ya reading thisBig or Rich, I loved those black/denim pants;) and I really admire what they are doing; she worked her crowd and gave a good show; so though I didn’t formally meet her, getting to her concert was about as close as I got;
